Course Four:
The Urbanised Body: Performance Research
Falling
Wide Easter Intensive 2007
Mon 23rd - Fri 27th April: 4.30 - 6pm
This performance research project will focus on the influence of
the urban environment and urbanisation on our dancing; exploring
relationships founded on imagery, sensation, intuition and given
information.
This project
is part of the larger Botanic Dances scheme that researches biodiversity
and ecology from the deeply personal perspective of what goes on
inside the dancer's body and mind when exposed to information and
varied environments. This is the second stage of developing the
scheme with gardens, environments and dancers in and around London.
Participation: This project is a free research
opportunity offered by application. To
apply please email a short statement of interest outlining your
interest in the course, professional background and any relevant
experience to Falling
Wide
Application deadline: Monday 2nd April
Application are welcome before the deadline
Course place will be confirmed no later than Thursday 5th April
Research Leader
Alex Howard
has over 25 years experience of making dance pieces, creating and
directing projects and teaching. In early days she worked with Rosemary
Butcher in London, later with Rosemary Lee touring her piece Passage
and most recently in Bristol with Angus Balbernie and with Charlotte
Hacker's Company Q. She has a long-term acquaintance with SRT. Her
interest in making dances in botanic gardens grew out of sessions
in Bristol of the Choreographer's Exchange, a forum for the exchange
of creative practices started in 2000. The first public performance
of Botanic Dances was Phase 1 (Apr 2004) in the University of Bristol
Botanic Garden followed by Of Plants and Personalities (Jun 2004),
Clippings of Yew, Winter Gardens (Feb 2005) and Hot Border (Sept
2005) at the new site for the University of Bristol Botanic Garden.
Alex Howard is a Falling
Wide Performance Research Artist 2007.
